Its name reflects the history of Chilecito city in the province of La Rioja. Here, until the beginning of the twentieth century there was a gold mine called La Mejicana which was located in Mount Famatina. To transport its minerals obtained, a 34-km long cable-car was built to join the mine with the city. Consequently and due to the distance to other important urban towns, the workers of La Mejicana and the cable-car had to make their own working tools. To do so, they used some molds called “Tacas” where they pour the liquid metal necessary to make their tools.
This wine is elaborated with grapes grown in the provinces of Mendoza and La Rioja in Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Torrontés varieties. This line was awarded at the International Wine Fair in Miami, United States of America, in 2005.
Alto Las Tacas 2004 Malbec was awarded the Silver Medal whereas its Cabernet Sauvignon peer was awarded the Bronze Medal. In 2006 the line was awarded again in this Fair, this time for its varieties 2005, receiving a Silver Medal for the Malbec and a Bronze Medal for the Cabernet Sauvignon.
